The Sub-Junior batch is PKPF's most popular program — and the one with the strongest track record. Players aged 13-17 are at a pivotal stage: technique learned now locks in for competitive cricket; fitness built now carries through U19 and beyond; state-trial habits formed now determine who gets selected. This is where serious development begins.

Training Content: What the 90-Minute Sessions Cover
Each Sub-Junior session is 90 minutes — longer than the Junior batch to accommodate the technical depth required at this age. The session structure rotates across skill blocks:
- Advanced batting technique: front-foot and back-foot play against different deliveries, power hitting mechanics, building innings tempo, reading the field
- Bowling refinement: seam position, swing, cutters, line-and-length control, variation delivery development
- Match simulation: pressure drills mimicking actual match conditions — last-over scenarios, partnerships, run-chase management
- Fitness and conditioning: sprint sets, agility ladder work, core stability — built into every session rather than treated as separate gym work
- Maharashtra state trial preparation: students targeting district and state selection get specific attention on what selectors assess: technique under pressure, consistency, fielding standard
The State Trial Track Record
Over 25 years, 11+ players who trained in PKPF's academy have gone on to represent Maharashtra State. The most notable Sub-Junior alumnus is Rajvardhan Hangargekar, who reached the Lucknow Super Giants (IPL) and represented India U19 — a trajectory that started at Parvati Paytha under Coach Prasad's supervision.
The state trial system in Maharashtra evaluates players at district level first, then state age-group trials. Sub-Junior (U17/U19 range) is the window where most selection decisions are made. Coach Prasad has served as U17 and U19 Maharashtra State Team Coach — he knows exactly what the selection panel looks for, and he trains the Sub-Junior batch to that standard.
Why the 1:10 Ratio Matters at This Level
Most coaching setups in Pune run batches of 20-30 students. At that density, individual feedback becomes impossible — players bat once every 40 minutes and receive no technique correction in between. PKPF's Sub-Junior batches cap at 8-10 students. Every student bats against live bowling, gets fielding reps, and receives verbal feedback from Coach Prasad in every session. This ratio is the single biggest differentiator between academies that produce state players and academies that keep kids busy.
Typical Student Profile
Sub-Junior students at PKPF generally fall into three groups:
- School team players wanting to elevate their game for inter-school tournaments and district trials
- Students transitioning from Junior (6-12) who are ready for higher-intensity training
- New students with prior self-taught experience who need correct technique established before bad habits become permanent
All three groups are welcome. Coach Prasad's intake assessment (during the free trial) identifies each student's current level and sets a personalised focus area from day one.
Locations Students Travel From
Sub-Junior students currently travel to Parvati Paytha from Parvati, Swargate (10 min), Sinhagad Road (15 min), Kothrud (20 min), Deccan, Karve Nagar, Bibwewadi, Sahakar Nagar, Hadapsar, Baner, and Wakad. Morning sessions run 7–9 AM (Tue–Sat + Sun) and evening sessions 4–6 PM (Tue–Sat), accommodating school schedules across the city. Monday is a rest day.
